And yet, city walks sometimes need to make way for a little greenery! That’s why we’ve decided to offer you a selection of our favorite Marseille parks and gardens for a stroll.
1. The Parc du 26ème Centenaire, a green place to celebrate Marseille’s history
As its name suggests, this park was built to celebrate Marseille’s 2600 years of history. These 26 centuries are symbolized by 26 redwood trees. It is located in the 10th arrondissement near Place Castellane, where the Prado train station once stood. With its play areas and bowling greens, the park is a veritable jewel of greenery in the heart of the city.
We also love its themed gardens: Oriental, Provençal, African and Asian. Its belvedere also offers a magnificent view of the city of Marseille. The perfect place to admire beautiful suns ets! And that’s not all: since 2005, this emblematic Marseille park has held the “remarkable garden” label!

2. Jardin de la Magalone, a hidden gem in the heart of Marseille
This magnificent, well-hidden garden stands out with difficulty in the middle of boulevard Michelet. A true haven of peace, far from the stress and hustle and bustle of the surrounding area. The Magalone garden is the park of a famous Provencal bastide built in 1810 and now listed as a historic monument. If you’re looking for a quiet place with little traffic, Jardin de la Magalone is for you!

3. Parc Borély, one of Marseilles’ most popular parks
Parc Borély is certainly Marseille’s most popular green space. Among its 18 hectares, the park features an 18th-century bastide house set in typical French landscaped grounds. It’s a favorite spot for Sunday runners and walkers alike, thanks to its long avenues and rose beds. A magnificent stretch of water makes it the ideal place to observe the lake’s various bird species, and to seek a cool spot on hot summer days.

4. Parc des bruyères, the perfect place for a short hike just a stone’s throw from town
If you’re lucky enough to live near Parc des Bruyères, we really envy you! This Marseille park offers a real escape from the city… just a stone’s throw from the city. It occupies both sides of the vallon de l’Evêque, linking the eastern districts with the calanques. A walk here is like a hike up to an altitude of 570 meters!
But the Parc des Bruyères offers much more than just hiking trails: it’s a real cultural stroll that awaits you, with various ancient remains along the way (lime kilns, olive-growing terraces, ancient sheepfolds…).

5. Parc de la colline Saint-Joseph, the ideal place to walk your dog in Marseille
This gigantic park where you can take your dog for a walk in Marseille is also the ideal place for sports enthusiasts, with specially adapted facilities and courses. Photographers will also be delighted with and its unobstructed views of Marseille.
The park is overlooked by the famous chapel from which it takes its name, and offers breathtaking panoramic views. In 2015, Parc de la colline Saint-Joseph was awarded the national EcoJardin label, a benchmark for ecological management of green spaces. And for those who love cute animals, you might even be lucky enough to come across some squirrels!

6. The park of Château de la Buzine, a total immersion in nature
It’s impossible to think of Château de La Buzine without its green setting, a park of over four hectares bordered by hills. With autumn just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to admire the warm colors of the trees. Aleppo pines, holm oaks, rosemary, rockroses… all the varieties and scents of the Mediterranean are here to welcome you. Also known as Parc des 7 collines, the place owes its fame to Marcel Pagnol. This wilderness area, little altered by the hand of man, offers calm and serenity.
