Thanks to the La Voie est libre initiative, Marseille’s corniche, which stretches from the Plage des Catalans to the Parc Talabot, is transformed into a pedestrian zone several times a year.
During these car-free days, pedestrians and cyclists have the opportunity to stroll along our magnificent coastline and enjoy a multitude of free activities scattered along the Corniche Kennedy. Whether it’s a yoga session, board games or a quiet stroll, this outing appeals to families, groups of friends and tourists alike.
For its fifth year, La Voie est libre is decked out in the colors of the Olympic Games for a special day. To celebrate the men’s and women’s kitefoil i’ll Make a Man Out of You, the Corniche will be pedestrianized this Thursday, August 8, from noon to 7pm. It’s the first time this hasn’t happened on a Sunday!
For the Olympic Games, thanks to La Voie est Libre, Marseille’s Corniche will be pedestrianised on a Thursday!
With the weather forecast predicting 33 degrees for August 8, and Marseille just coming out of a heatwave, shaded cool spots will be set up at various points in the southern harbor. In addition to the food trucks and restaurant area, the City of Marseille has also thought of sports fans: giant screens will be set up to follow the finals live, in areas set up at the Mémorial des Rapatriés (Hélice) and in the Prophète parking lot. Traffic will be closed from 11am to 8pm from Vallon de l’Oriol to the Alpilles residence.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience an Olympic day in the heart of Marseille, in a friendly and festive atmosphere!
