Christmas lights at Sanary-sur-Mer: a magical interlude on the waterfront
Once again this year, Sanary-sur-Mer is decked out in lights. November 28 marks the long-awaited launch of the Christmas lights and decorations, kicking off a month and a half of enchantment. Until January 5, 2026, the village will be transformed into a veritable Christmas story, inviting young and old to (re)discover one of Provence’s most beautiful villages in a whole new light.
As you follow a luminous trail, let yourself be guided by the magic of the sparkling decorations adorning the Maison Flotte, the Galerie Barthélemy de Don, the Lavoir des Jardins and the square in front of the Hôtel de Ville. Goblins, snowmen and animated automatons punctuate the stroll, providing a warm and comforting atmosphere as winter slowly settles in.
The port and its illuminated “pointus”: an emblematic tradition
It’s hard not to stop in front of the harbor, a veritable jewel in the crown, wherethe sailboats are illuminated and reflected on the sparkling sea. It’s a poetic, almost unreal scene that amazes young and old every year.
Every winter, the port of Sanary becomes a picture-postcard setting. Fishermen and yachtsmen themselves decorate their “pointus“, traditional Provencal boats with colorful prows. Local residents compete with each other to illuminate their boats, transforming the port into a veritable tableau vivant. A tradition that began several years ago and has now become one of the symbols of Christmas in Sanary.
A Christmas village with Provencal flavours

Beyond its illuminations, Sanary also cultivates the spirit of Provencal festivities. The Christmas Market, set up on the quayside, is bursting with sweet treats and gourmet aromas: mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, calissons, nougats and other regional specialties. Visitors can stroll among the wooden chalets and creationsof local artisans, marvel at the nativity scenes and santons, and savor the famous thirteen desserts of Provencal tradition. And don’t forget the choirs and musical entertainers who add a touch of conviviality to your visit.
Illuminations yes, but an effort for the planet too

True to its eco-responsible approach, the town of Sanary-sur-Mer is committed to combining the magic of Christmas with energy efficiency. The illuminations, using low-energy LED technology, are designed to reduce their environmental impact. The town has also adjusted the lighting times to preserve the beauty of the show while limiting energy consumption. An exemplary way of reminding us that it’s possible to celebrate the magic of Christmas while thinking of the planet.
