If you’re tired of ordering half a Kro or a glass of red (“the cheapest, please!”), the Phocaean city has plenty of alternatives to offer. These include trendy cocktail bars where you can go wild with Cuba Libre and Tequ’ Paf. We reveal 11 of Marseille’s must-try cocktail bars.
1. La Caravelle – one of Marseille’s jazziest cocktail bars
This is one of old Port‘s most legendary addresses. Formerly a sailors’ bar, it has stood the test of time to welcome locals and visitors alike, music lovers and bon vivants, the curious and bands of friends. In a jazzy atmosphere and a warm décor, enjoy the house cocktail: The Bloody Mary. Made from vodka and tomato juice, it was the drink of choice of writer Ernest Hemingway.
📍34, Quai du Port – Marseille 2e
2. Gaspard – the specialist
If we go to the Gaspard for its trend-setting decor and the excellent quality of its food, it’s not the only reason to visit. We also love tasting original cocktails made by a talented mixologist. Succumb to the fresh, seasonal Masked Cucumber (a bitter, frothy gin blended with basil, cucumber and cardamom).
📍7, Boulevard Notre Dame – Marseille 6e
3. Le Carry Nation – one of Marseille’s most mysterious cocktail bars
The first bar in France to break new ground in the speakeasy trend, the Carry Nation is a benchmark for cutting-edge cocktails. While they keep their exact location a mystery, you should know that they offer cocktails inspired by the pre-Prohibition and Prohibition era. In a clandestine, American-style atmosphere, take a trip back to the 1920s, a time when it was strictly forbidden to consume alcoholic beverages!
📍Itwill be revealed to you when you make your reservation 😉
4. Le Copperbay Marseille – the sailor
Under the slogan “Cocktails, Pastis & Food”, the Copperbay Marseille has our undivided attention! In a chic, marine atmosphere in the heart of the Old Port, cast off and embark on an emotionally-charged adventure. Among their eight sophisticated cocktails: the voyageur Bob Lee Punch with Martini Riserva ambrato, rum, dragon tea, curried pineapple… And the oriental Tahini Sour with pisco fat washed tahini, lime juice, black cumin syrup and bitter olive.
📍36, Boulevard Notre Dame – Marseille 6e
5. Maison Bohème – the generous
With a cocktail menu to make Ernest Hemingway green with envy (yes, him again!), the Bohemian House is the cocktail bar to go to if you want to break away from the classic. In a bistronomic atmosphere, let yourself be tempted by their cocktails with evocative names: the French-style spritz (Lillet, tonic, cucumber), the Avenue (Gin, grapefruit, Amaretto), the Héritière (Vodka, fresh mint, rose syrup, lime and yellow lemon, tonic) or La bohème (Vodka, triple sec, lemon, raspberry). One of Marseille’s must-visit cocktail bars.
📍 40, rue Saint-Sébastien – Marseille 6e
6. La Soifferie – le fleuri
📍8, Place Paul Cézanne – Marseille 6e
7. BACK to BAC – one of Marseille’s liveliest cocktail bars
It’s a fact that you like to drink cocktails (or you wouldn’t be reading this article, would you?). And after a few glasses of Espresso Martini, you invariably start singing at the top of your lungs (and in yoghurt) to the Spice Girls or Britney Spears? We have unearthed the perfect place for you. In this cocktail-slash-karaoke-box bar, you’ll be served cocktails with evocative names like “j’irai où tu iras” (Lemon-infused vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice, lemon juice, hibiscus syrup), “Que je t’aime” (Cachaça, lime, cinnamon syrup, apple purée, st germain) or “Femme Like U” (Tequila, crème de cassis, lime juice, ginger beer). But don’t go breaking your voice (little musical ref – wink wink)!

8. Julis – le dolce vita
Aficionados of idleness and the dolce vita in all its slowness, the Julis is the place you’ve been hoping for. An extension of Sépia – that bistronomic restaurant which has already conquered the verdant Colline Puget – Julis has nothing to envy its elder brother. While taking in the panoramic view, you can sip on cocktails, expertly “mixologized” and generous, on offer from Thursday to Saturday from 6pm to 11pm, and on Sunday from 11am to 8pm. Arrivederci!
📍2, Rue Vauvenargues – Marseille 7e
9. Cruise glass – escape to the Middle East
A cocktail, of course, but not the only one. At Verre à Cruise we escape to Lebanon. To accompany your elaborate beverages, a Middle Eastern cuisine to savour in bite-sized portions. Mezzes, tabouleh, hummus… Authentic flavours perfect for delicious mixology masterpieces!
10. Le Yen – the Japanese cocktail bar
From 7pm, the beautiful The Yen also welcomes you to its Cocktail Bar area. At this incredible address in Marseille’s 6th arrondissement, you can sip a wide selection of beers, whiskies and sakes. One of Marseille’s must-visit cocktail bars.
11. Coquetel Club, one of Marseille’s “bons vivants” cocktail bars
Recently opened in Marseille, the Coquetel Club was founded by Adrien and Roman, two friends with a passion for cocktails. Together, they decided to open their own bar, a warm and friendly place where you can enjoy unique Coquetel creations, gourmet French boards and homemade tartines. So if you’re looking for the perfect place to enjoy a drink , this is it.
