Nestled in the heart of La Ciotat, the often-overlooked Parc du Mugel offers an ideal getaway for the whole family. Located along the Corniche, this 17-hectare park is a true gem of the Mediterranean coast. It combines lush nature with spectacular sea views. An easy stroll for children and ideal for parents. Marseille Secrète tells you more about this family outing to enjoy in the spring.
From a millennia-old river to a Remarkable Garden

Located in the exceptional Calanques National Park, Mugel is much more than just a park. This site steeped in history has been shaped by millions of years of geological evolution. This area was once the delta of a flowing river that gradually formed distinctive rock formations. Over time and through erosion, these rock formations gave rise to spectacular landforms, such as the Bec de l’Aigle or the Trois Secs. This iconic promontory, which sailors once used as a landmark, still contributes to the landscape’s uniqueness today.
Long a private property, Mugel Park became a public space in 1987. Since then, the municipality of La Ciotat has maintained the park with care. This has earned it the designation of “Remarkable Garden” today.
A getaway in the heart of nature

Mugel Park stands out as a true haven of peace for nature lovers. Right from the entrance, shaded paths invite you to stroll through a lush botanical garden. Spanning approximately 12 hectares, you’ll discover numerous species, from the most local to the most unexpected. Holm oaks, noble laurels, as well as bamboo groves and cacti coexist in this preserved environment. As for the youngest visitors, they will particularly enjoy the Garden of the Senses. An interactive space designed to awaken the five senses through a multitude of textures, scents, and colors.
For the more adventurous, a steeper trail leads to a lookout point at an elevation of 82 meters. The climb requires a bit of effort, but the reward is well worth it: a spectacular panoramic view of the sea and the surrounding landscapes.
Crystal-clear waters and picnic areas

Mugel Park is also an ideal place to enjoy a pleasant moment outdoors. Several picnic areas, set in the shade of the trees, allow you to enjoy lunch in a peaceful setting. Between the song of the cicadas and the coolness of the foliage, everything invites you to slow down and savor the moment.
Continuing the walk, you reach Mugel Beach, nestled in a sheltered cove. Families particularly enjoy this pebble beach, bordered by crystal-clear waters. Children can watch the fish, collect seashells, or simply play at the water’s edge.
During the summer season, swimming is supervised, which gives parents peace of mind. Meanwhile, adults can relax and admire the cliffs that surround the cove. One tip, however: in the height of summer, the place gets very crowded, so it’s best to visit during quieter times to fully enjoy it.
