Best city in Europe, best destination… At one time, Marseille was included in so many rankings that we had to compile them all for you in this list. Now, Marseille is back, this time as one of the world’s best cities 2025. Admittedly, it doesn’t shine in the top 10 – far from it – but it’s gradually moving up the rankings!
The ranking
Every year, Time Out magazine publishes a ranking of the world’s best cities. For the year 2025, Cape Town comes out on top. And why? Because the city combines the splendor of its natural landscapes with an eclectic atmosphere and nightlife, and this combination is unique!
Bangkok ranks second, New York third (it was the top 1 in 2024), followed by Melbourne in fourth place. As for Paris, the French capital, it finds itself in 19th position (down 8 places on the 2024 ranking).
What about Marseille?
Marseille is one of the best cities in the world
Marseille has moved up to 38th place (from 45th in 2024) out of the 50 on the list. So the city is improving! If we move up 7 places a year, in just over five years we’ll be number 1!
Designated European Capital of Culture, Time Out underlines Marseille’s reputation as a cosmopolitan, trendy and culturally attractive city. France’s second-largest city also boasts a major positive asset: the Parc National des Calanques, which fascinates visitors with the beauty of its flora and fauna.
Thanks to the Olympic flame and the games held there, Marseille’s reputation has reached a new peak! The spectacle was indeed exceptional!
Once known for its noise and crime, it has now become a must-see summer vacation destination! With its brilliant sunshine, creative gastronomy, rocky beaches and breathtaking sunsets, Marseille has attracted the crowds – and even artists, luxury brands and chefs!
Sixty-three percent of Marseillais polled say they love their neighborhood and the city in general, thanks to its culinary scene and conviviality!
At the same time, we’ve got sun, fun and good food. What more could you ask for?
