Here we are: the final stretch before the festive season and Christmas feasts. Once the gift shopping is done, there’s still the New Year’s Eve shopping to do! During this time of year, even though December 24 is not a public holiday, many stores and supermarkets in Marseille change their opening hours and close earlier. If you’re one of those who’ll be braving the crowds in search of an oyster bourriche or a block of extra foie gras, here’s a guide to the opening hours of shops this Wednesday, December 24, 2025.
Carrefour and Carrefour Express
This year, Carrefour is bringing forward the closing of its stores to 6pm. With the exception of Carrefour Grand Littoral, which will close at 6.30pm, and Carrefour Le Merlan, which will remain open until 8.30pm.
Most Express and City stores are open as usual. However, some stores may introduce an early closing time. We advise you to check the opening times on a case-by-case basis on the Carrefour website .
Auchan and E.Leclerc
Auchan hypermarkets and supermarkets will also be closing early on Christmas Eve. The La Valentine and Saint-Loup hypermarkets will close at 6 p.m., compared with 9.30 p.m. under normal circumstances, while most supermarkets will close between 6 and 7 p.m., see the Auchanwebsite .
As for E.Leclerc hypermarkets, the Cabries center will close at 8pm, Marignane at 7pm and Sormiou at 6pm. The Vitrolles site is closed.
Intermarché Express, Super and Hyper
Intermarché stores ‘ normal opening hours are 8.30 a.m.-8.00 p.m. (8.30 p.m. in some cases). However, each store operates different opening hours on December 24. The Centre Commercial Les Caillols Intermarché will close at 6.30pm, while many Super stores will close at 8pm. We therefore recommend that you consult your store’s opening hours on the Intermarché website.
Grand Frais and Picard
Grand Frais supermarkets will also be closing early at 6pm (instead of 8pm). The same goes for frozen food giant Picard, which will close a little earlier on December 24: at 7pm instead of the usual 7:30pm.
Aldi, Lidl and Casino
Aldi and Lidl will also be keeping shorter opening hours on December 24. Although opening times vary from store to store during the rest of the year, all Aldi stores will close at 6pm, compared with 5pm for Lidl stores.
With an extensive network of Spar, Vival and Casinominimarkets , the stores of these banners will have unchanged opening hours on December 24. Most close at 8pm, but this may vary from store to store .
