While Provence is brimming with treasures in every season, there are destinations that spring makes particularly sublime. Surrounded by forests and groves, the village of Sillans-la-Cascade welcomes visitors to its lush green setting, at the gateway to the Verdon Regional Nature Park. The charm of this medieval town is enhanced by its splendid waterfall with its turquoise pools of water, creating a truly enchanting scene. Reopened to the public after several months of construction, the observation deck and access from the left bank allow visitors to once again enjoy one of the most beautiful sites in the Var. A getaway with Provençal flair and full of freshness, less than two hours from Marseille.
A spectacular waterfall in the heart of green Provence

About twenty minutes from Lake Sainte-Croix, Sillans-la-Cascade looks like a postcard scene. Nestled at the gateway to the Verdon, this hilltop village is best known for its spectacular waterfall, considered one of the most beautiful in Provence.
Even before you catch sight of the waterfall, the journey sets the tone. The road winds through dense vegetation typical of the Provence Verte, then the first towers and ancient fortifications come into view. The walk then begins in the shade of the trees. From the village parking lot, a marked trail leads to the lookout point in about twenty minutes. At the end of the trail, the view is breathtaking. The Bresque plunges from a 42-meter-high travertine cliff to form a turquoise-blue pool, set in an almost tropical atmosphere.
While the color of the water makes you want to dive in, swimming is prohibited for safety reasons (risk of falling rocks) and to preserve this fragile ecosystem.
Strolling through the village of Sillans-la-Cascade

It would be a shame to come all this way without taking the time to explore the village itself. Behind its unassuming appearance, Sillans-la-Cascade hides all the authentic charm of Provence.
Organized around narrow alleyways and small, shaded squares, the historic center invites you to wander. The colorful facades, vaulted passageways, and stone houses create a peaceful atmosphere.
You can’t miss the Château des Castellane, rebuilt in the 18th century on the foundations of an ancient medieval structure. As you continue your stroll, you’ll also come acrossthe Church of Saint-Étienne, recognizable by its elegant porch and beautiful exposed stonework. The old presbytery and the bell tower also add to the charm of the historic center. To extend your walk, head toward the rampart path that runs along the river to the wash house.
