A new hotspot is set to change the landscape of La Joliette. Located on Boulevard des Dames, a new 237-room hotel is coming to Marseille with a particularly appealing promise for lovers of panoramic views… A 300-square-meter rooftop overlooking the city and the sea. Its name? Ruby Lilou Hotel & Bar.
An XXL hotel with a rooftop in its sights
The project is led by Ruby Group. This German group is focused on a more laid-back hotel concept, with fewer unnecessary services but more common areas where guests can linger. Ruby Lilou Hotel & Bar has 237 rooms and is located in a former office building that has been converted into a hotel. The building will also house a coworking space called Ruby Yani.
But it’s especially at the very top that things get interesting. The project includes a 24-hour bar extending onto a 300 m² rooftop terrace! All of this comes with an unobstructed view of Marseille and all the way to the sea. In other words, it’s a place where you can pop up for a drink or simply take in the view after a day spent exploring the city.
La Joliette with a very pop vibe
In terms of decor, Ruby Lilou Hotel & Bar aims to take a very different approach from that of traditional hotels. The group describes its aesthetic as a blend of Provençal charm, the rebellious spirit of Marseille, punk touches, and nods to the ’80s. Warm wood, vibrant colors, and more laid-back furnishings are designed to give the space an atmosphere that feels more like a living space than a mere hotel.
And for Marseille residents, the rooftop might just be the most interesting part of the project. Ruby is already promoting the property as a new vantage point overlooking the city and the sea. The hotel is located in La Joliette, between the Old Port and the business district. Le Panier and the Mucem are said to be about a 15-minute walk away.
The project, announced for 2026, is now officially known as Ruby Lilou Hotel & Bar and is already open for reservations. If you’re looking for a new spot to enjoy a drink with a view of Marseille, be sure to keep an eye on the rooftop starting this fall.
