Right in the heart of the Cours Honoré d’Estienne d’Orves, where one terrace after another lets Marseillais enjoy the first gentle rays of spring sunshine, a new restaurant has just opened its doors! And not just any restaurant! After opening several brasseries in Paris, one in Lille and one in Lyon, Nouvelle Garde, the traditional French brasserie, is opening its first establishment in Marseille: Brasserie Barbotin! Barely two months after its opening, the terrace is already full and the customers are smiling (after all, this is Marseille)!
Traditional, homemade, seasonal, local and French cuisine (nothing less)!
At Chez Barbotin, everything is based on seasonal produce: no tomatoes in winter, just fresh produce that varies throughout the year. Everything is homemade, with raw ingredients and vegetables sourced directly from their local market gardeners! Committed to saving France’s gastronomic heritage, Barbotin favors short circuits, sourcing mainly from the region (and there’s plenty to go around!) Whether it’s for their dishes or their cellar, they work directly with numerous producers! This explains the quality of what’s on our plates!
Generous, tasty dishes just the way we like them!
Le Barbotin offers simple, gourmet cuisine with a touch of creativity that makes you want to try everything! To give you a better idea, let’s tell you about our experience in this new brasserie!
First contact with a smile and the offer of drinks! They explain the cocktail of the day and, with curiosity, we decide to try it! We then began our meal with, for one of us, this cocktail with a subtle limoncello taste, neither too alcoholic nor too sweet, the perfect cocktail for relaxing at lunchtime without getting a headache! And for the other, a non-alcoholic cocktail, a tasty blend of apple and ginger beer, ideal for those who want to stay sober to get back to work in the afternoon!
While we sip our cocktails, we tackle the choice of starters! After much hesitation, we finally opted for the pate en croûte, eggs mayonnaise and onion soup to start the meal (we needed 3 starters to test the diversity of the menu). Their onion soup, with its pronounced port flavor and cheesey coating, was absolutely incredible! As for the pâté en croûte, it’s a wonder we don’t eat it more often: tasty, melt-in-your-mouth, just right! Now let’s talk about the eggs mayonnaise, because it’s essential to taste a classic to know the value of a restaurant, and you’ll see for yourself, at the price of 3€, you’ll hesitate to go back for more after you’ve finished your plate!
Let’s move on to the main course. That day, the à la carte menu featured 5 dishes, including classics such as beef flank steak and their famous mashed sausage! And even though the menu is evolving, there’s always meat, fish and a vegetarian dish, so there’s something for everyone! In the end, we opted for the vegetarian option, as it involved a dish with Provençal flavors: pistou soup revisited with tomato concassé! A masterstroke for Barbotin, because even though we’re big fans of soupe au pistou, we enjoyed rediscovering it in a new form! After all, even the classics can surprise!
To finish (because we skipped the cheese), we headed for dessert with a tarte tatin and chocolate mousse! We have to admit, we had a hard time choosing between the 6 different desserts on offer. Again, classics that, when they’re successful, make us want to eat the neighbor’s! We were pleasantly surprised by the generosity of the apples on the tarte tatin and the chocolate roll on the mousse. To give you our opinion of the desserts, let’s just say that there wasn’t a crumb left (almost no need to wash up)!
As you can see, we ate very well!
A place that invites you to spend a convivial moment at lunchtime or in the evening!
Sitting on the terrace at lunchtime, we were able to enjoy the Barbotin’s pleasant, warm terrace, which can accommodate up to 155 people (perfect for those very popular places)! As we enjoyed our meal, we watched the dishes pass back and forth on the waiters’ trays. The leek vinaigrette and the inevitable sausage purée won us over at a glance (but be warned, we’ll have to come back for more!). As for the interior of the brasserie, it’s just as pleasant thanks to a decor that’s both authentic and modern, with a certain cachet that suits both lunch and dinner! Here, too, 155 guests can enjoy a meal!
So, what are you waiting for ?
