In Marseille, some treasures are hidden where you least expect them. Between urban wastelands and industrial heritage, the Aygalades waterfall surprises curious walkers. Long forgotten, this secret waterfall is now one of Marseille’s must-see attractions. A natural refuge and unexpected artistic hideaway in the Phocaean city, it offers a refreshing and poetic interlude.
A waterfall saved from oblivion
A real Marseille curiosity, the Aygalades waterfall is an unusual gem nestled in the heart of the 15th arrondissement. Nine meters high, this waterfall once flowed in the private park of Château Falque. At the time, it was a privileged meeting place reserved for the bourgeoisie of the 19th century. The construction of the A7 motorway in the 1940s led to the demolition of the château and the waterfall was abandoned, becoming virtually inaccessible. It was temporarily forgotten and abandoned, but thanks to the initiative of artists and the Cité des Arts de la Rue, passionate restoration work began in 2026 to transform this neglected relic. It is a true natural heritage site that has been reborn.
