Christmas is here (Merry Christmas!), and with it sometimes comes the unexpected or the sudden. A present goes missing, there’s not enough cheese left for lunch, or you just feel like taking a walk in the warmth… The question then arises: which shops are still open on December 25? With the public holiday upon us, Marseille is living in slow motion, with reduced opening hours and exceptional closures. To help you get organized without stress, here’s a rundown of shops open and closed this Wednesday, December 25, 2025.
Shopping centers and superstores
Considered one of the most strictly observed public holidays of the year, December 25 means curtains down for the vast majority of retailers. In Marseilles, most shopping centers have announced that they will be completely closed on Christmas Day. This is particularly true of Terrasses du Port, Centre Bourse, Grand Littoral, Centre Valentine, Prado Shopping and Docks Village. Superstores are no exception: several hypermarkets, including Auchan Saint-Loup, Intermarché Caillols and Grand Frais stores, will also remain closed.
There is one exception, however: the Centre Bonneveine is maintaining access to its cinema, enabling moviegoers to enjoy a screening on Christmas Day, despite the closure of other stores on the site.
Local shops
It’s time to turn to the local shops for your purchases:
- While Carrefour Market stores will remain closed for Christmas, some Carrefour Express stores (Lodi and Bernard in particular) and Carrefour City stores (Chartreux, Saint-Charles and Breteuil among others) indicate that they will be open. You can check opening times on the Carrefour website.
- The extensive network of Spar, Vival and Casino Shop minimarkets will for the most part have unchanged opening hours on December 25. Petit Casino stores will be closed. However, we advise you to consult your store‘s opening hours.
- Among the Intermarchés Express and Super stores, some will be completely closed on Christmas Day, while others will remain open. We therefore recommend that you consult your store’s opening hours on the Intermarché website.
- All Aldi, Lidl and Picard stores will remain closed on Christmas Day.
