In May, do as you please… as long as you’re wearing a K-Way. After an April that offered a taste of summer in Marseille, the weather has taken a distinct turn for the worse since the beginning of May. To cope with weather as unpredictable as it is unexpected, it’s best to wait before breaking out the light clothing. This cooler, unsettled spell is set to linger for several more days across much of France. And Marseille doesn’t seem to be much of an exception.
Unsettled weather settles in Marseille

Since this weekend, the weather has been gradually changing. The sunny spells are expected to give way to rainy spells, occasional heavy showers, and a few thunderstorms, particularly in the late afternoon. A much less summery atmosphere than the one the people of Marseille were slowly getting used to.
This deterioration is due to the arrival of a mass of colder, more humid air over the country. As it meets the warmer air already present around the Mediterranean, it creates unstable weather with often overcast skies and more frequent precipitation.
Even if a slight lull could emerge by midweek, it is expected to be short-lived. In the days that follow, the unsettled weather could return with falling temperatures and a feel that is sometimes surprisingly autumnal for mid-May.
Temperatures below seasonal averages

The coming days are also expected to be cooler than usual. Temperatures are expected to remain several degrees below seasonal averages. The chill will be intensified by the presence of the mistral.
According to Météo France, this spell of unsettled weather could last until the Ascension Day long weekend. But as is often the case with spring weather, forecasts can still change quickly… and Marseille is never completely immune to an unexpected return of the sun.
