With the return of sunny days, an irresistible craving for greenery and fresh air takes hold of Marseille. In Marseille, spring wouldn’t be quite the same without the Plant Festival at the Mucem. From April 3 to 5, 2026, this event offers a true escape, an invitation to disconnect from the urban hustle and bustle and reconnect with nature, without even leaving the city. It’s an opportunity to enjoy a green getaway featuring a variety of activities for a weekend in nature.
Fort Saint-Jean becomes a hanging garden between sky and sea
This year, the Fête des Plantes takes on a special dimension centered around the captivating theme of the “Forest City.” It is no longer just about decorating our streets, but about reimagining our urban spaces as vibrant ecosystems, directly inspired by natural balances.
The setting, meanwhile, is magnificent. Set in the heart of Fort Saint-Jean, the Fête des Plantes transforms this historic monument into a small, green village suspended over the Mediterranean. Wandering through peaceful courtyards, past a discreet chapel or up winding staircases, visitors discover hidden gardens where stone and greenery blend perfectly. It is in this privileged and historic setting that the Mucem hosts its events. Workshops, guided garden tours, and a plant market nestled in the Cour de la Commande await visitors.
The weekend will open with a poetic touch with the show Éloge de la forêt, a sensitive production blending music and ecological commitment, offering a fresh perspective on climate issues.
Learn, create, and marvel: a program for everyone

The true heart of the event, the plant market attracts collectors and Sunday strollers alike. Here, there are no anonymous stalls: it is the nursery owners themselves who share their passion. It’s the perfect opportunity to discover rare Mediterranean varieties and leave with valuable advice.
For those with a green thumb (or who wish they had one!), several experiences punctuate the route:
- The Cutting Bar: A hands-on and friendly experience to learn the art of propagation. The little extra? You’ll leave with a cutting to grow at home.
- Family Workshops: Children aren’t forgotten. Through fun games, they discover the secrets of coastal flora and the incredible ability of plants to adapt to sea spray.
- Themed Tours: Museum guides invite you to explore the collections from a fresh perspective. Plants become the thread weaving together millennia-old stories, spanning medicinal traditions and Mediterranean folklore.
