It’s barely been a week since the store opened, and it hasn’t been empty since. Just a stone’s throw from the Old Port, the new 100% Italian ice cream parlour Ciao Amore has just opened its doors. The promise: the warmest of welcomes and gourmet ice cream recipes served in a colorful pop-art decor subtly reminiscent of Wes Anderson’s aestheticism. Follow us!
Ciao Amore, your new favorite ice cream parlour in the heart of Marseille
You’re strolling along the Old Port. It’s the middle of August. Temperatures are approaching 32 degrees. Suddenly, you’re craving ice cream. And that’s when you innocently head for Ciao Amore, a colorful new ice cream shop in the heart of downtown. You don’t know it yet, but you’re about to have the taste experience of a lifetime.
As soon as you step inside, you realize that the store is run by real Italians. Colorful, well-kept decoration, charming little accents from Mattia and Francesco who welcome us… We’re already in Italy.
So what’s for dinner?
Between classic, hyper-mastered recipes and original Italian flavors, you’re spoilt for choice at Ciao Amore! Gourmands (and indecisive) that we are, we ask to try a little of everything. And mamma mia, we’re not disappointed. From the “Fior di Latte” flavor to the Valrhona 70% chocolate and the “Cremino” (which blends chocolate and hazelnuts, our favorite), not forgetting the exquisite lemon-basil sorbet, pistachio cannolis and melt-in-the-mouth tiramisus, everything is absolutely delicious. The secret of this success: a truly creamy ice cream recipe made on the spot, behind the glass, by Mattia.
After working for 9 years at Big Mamma in Paris, the Rimini-born restaurateur decided to embark on an entrepreneurial adventure with Francesco, who hails from Rome. Tired of the greyness of the French capital, both found Marseille the perfect place to live in the sun and refresh the world with their delicious frozen creations.
Italian charm
“It’s only been a week but it’s going well, we’re getting some great feedback. We’re delighted because we really enjoy talking to people and letting them taste our ice creams.” explains Mattia. Indeed, the 5 stars from dozens of Google reviews speak the truth. At Ciao Amore, we can take the time to chat with the two restaurateurs, who put as much balm in our hearts with their smiles as their ice creams.
As for prices, the prices are quite reasonable for portions that couldn’t be more generous. Count €3.5 for a “small” pot, €4.5 for a medium one and €5.5 for a large one.
Next objective for the place: to open a terrasse and adapt the menu to the seasons. One thing’s for sure, we can only encourage you to try everything!
