Like a lighthouse guiding us to a city’s best restaurants, the expertise of the Michelin Guide is beyond question. Like our “Eat and Drink” section, this culinary guide collects the city’s best gastronomic offerings. It also approves Michelin-starred restaurants. Not an elitist guide, the Michelin Guide also offers us the chance to discover an inexpensive restaurant in Marseilles. Marseille Secrète presents it to you.
Michelin Guide expertise
When you consider Marseille’s vast gastronomic offering, it’s sometimes good to have a guide. The Michelin Guide distinguishes itself in three categories. Firstly, it is known for the highest recognition it awards – the famous Michelin stars. These stars are also synonymous with an often overpriced meal, with a few exceptions… It also awards other distinctions such as the Michelin Green Stars, which recognize chefs’ commitment to cooking in favor of sustainability. Another notable category is the Bib Gourmands, awarded to restaurants offering the best value for money.
But that’s not all, and it’s certainly not what we’re interested in here. In fact, this bible for mangeophiles also recommends affordable restaurants that deserve a mention on their site. These are accompanied by the “€” symbol and the words “sans se priver” – which, translated into figures, means that the average price of a complete meal (starter/main course/dessert) is less than 30 euros. In Marseille, there’s one such restaurant: L’Arôme. We present it to you.

L’Arôme restaurant
There are gourmet addresses where everyone agrees. Fresh, quality produce, homemade dishes, delicious Mediterranean flavors… This inexpensive restaurant on Cours Julien is as popular with the Michelin Guide as it is with the gourmets who have dined there. A word of advice: make sure you make a reservation, and don’t miss out on their cromesquis, which are to die for. For the moment, the restaurant is temporarily closed, but we look forward to its reopening.
What the Michelin Guide has to say:
In a typically colorful Marseillaise street, this little restaurant looks like a real schoolroom, with its old maps of France, classroom chairs and menus presented in a notebook. The cuisine is Mediterranean, tasty and meticulous, like the veal cromesquis. An informal atmosphere and a smiling welcome like the Marseille sun.
