Villa Ralli and Le Gouverneur: The Secrets of Château Saint-Victor
Located at 142 Rue du Commandant Rolland, Château Saint-Victor stands out as one of Marseille’s best-kept secrets. Built in the mid-19th century in an elegant style and surrounded by a vast, lush park, this sumptuous building was originally known as Villa Ralli. At the time, it belonged to a wealthy family of Greek merchants fromthe island of Chios. Over the decades, the estate has welcomed illustrious guests, starting with Marie Taglioni, a legendary figure of romantic ballet, who left a poetic mark on the château’s history.

Gradually, the property’s destiny shifted fromthe arts to military authority. Having become the official residence and headquarters of the Military Governor of Marseille, the building traded its social glamour for absolute discretion. The estate remained completely off-limits to the general public for a long time, preserving its centuries-old architecture and majestic grounds. It is precisely this striking contrast between romantic lore, military prestige, and a well-kept secret that gives Château Saint-Victor such a unique aura today.
